Metropolis Mall – Santa Domes

December 2, 2009

As the Holiday season is upon us, we thought it would be nice to remember some of our favorite holiday dome events.

Metropolis Mall opened their Santa domes to create a unique and magical experience for children to line up and see their favorite elf. These domes, a 36’ and 44’, helped spread the Christmas spirit for Indiana, and are two of our most festive domes to date.

Sky1 TV – Got To Dance Domes

November 9, 2009

Sky1 - Got To Dance 90ft Dome

The UK’s most popular entertainment channel Sky1 is home to the exciting new dance competition program Got To Dance, presided by Davina McCall. Pacific Domes paired with Element Domes provided the “Sky Domes”.  This featured one of our largest most breathtaking domes, a 90ft, and two connecting 36ft domes for the TV Studio space.

Sky1 - Got To Dance, London Domes

The two smaller domes were used as rehearsal and holding areas for the dancers to relax before entering onto the main stage. The larger dome was used as the main studio, where live audiences were able to watch the auditions take place.

Sky1 - Got To Dance, Manchester Domes

The first round of Got To Dance, known as “Dancing in the Street” auditions took place in Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal, followed by Manchester’s City Football Club, and London’s O2 arena. The whole filming process took place over the month of October.

Sky1 - Got To Dance, Studio Dome

We were very pleased to provide our unique structures for Sky’s mobile TV Studio. Got to Dance is scheduled for broadcast in January 2010. Be sure to follow these talented dancers as they perform in this one of a kind, truly exceptional dome studio.

SEPTEMBER 25-27, 2009

Earthdance, the Global Dance Festival for Peace, is the world’s largest simultaneous music and dance event that takes place each year in 60+ countries. Its goal is to inspire people all over the globe to support humanitarian causes. It aims to unite people through the universal language of music and dance while joining in a day of peaceful celebration and harmony. The objective is to create as many Earthdance events around the world as possible.

Earthdance 09 Day Shot

Pacific Domes has been working with Earthdance in Laytonville, California since 2001. Every year we sponsor the festival by providing event domes which are used for multiple purposes throughout the weekend. This year we featured The Temple of Electronica which was a 60 ft. dome that lit up the night. It was mostly empty during daylight hours but when the sun made its descent, the music and lightshows took over. The atmosphere inside was like a nightclub with bands playing and people dancing until sunrise. The dome was full of festival energy!

Earthdance Inside Shot

Earthdance is expanding its circle to include anyone interested in world peace. At each event around the world, promoters donate at least 50% of their profits to a local charity. There are no conditions on how big or small an Earthdance celebration needs to be. We encourage you to participate on whatever level is comfortable for you, whether it’s a public or private event. If you would like to get involved please visit http://www.earthdance.org/.

Kevin Dickey recently shared the story of his Dome with us:

We live out on an island (Orcas) … a trek for anyone. At present, the shelter dome is our guest spot and my office/studio. I finished construction on our house last December — the dome, a bath-house and a kitchen shack was our 2 year solution while building.

Pacific Domes Featured In Sustainable Homes

February 12, 2009

Pacific Domes is proud to be a part of the recently published Sustainable Homes by Pilar Chueca. The book documents dozens of beautiful and simple examples of sustainable architecture. It serves as an up-to-date resource on the current state of sustainable design.

The book provides a story of a family from Ojai, California who live in the 44 foot dome. They are able to integrate themselves in the surrounding landscape and easily customize their home to suite their life-style.  They enjoy maximum living space without any internal supports.

The dome is also well insulated with a rubberized paint which also deflects UV rays in the summer months, keeping the dome comfortable year round. Pieces of the dome were able to be peeled back in order to take in the natural beauty of the California coast. The family also added room separations to provide their ten-year-old sun with privacy when desired.

Aside from the minimal phisical environmental impact of the dome, It also provides a reduction in energy consumption. Almost all the energy usd by the home comes from solar panels. We are honored that Sustainable Homes chose to feature us excited that more people are learning about the many reasons to consider making a dome their home.

International Aid + Trade Event cocktail reception Geneva, Switzerland

JANUARY 24-27, 2008

The cocktail reception, for the 2008 International Aid + Trade Event, was held inside a 44 ft. Pacific Dome at the PALEXPO in Geneva, Switzerland. It was a huge hit and it gave attendees a unique place to unwind, enjoy a drink, and interact with other members of the humanitarian community. Aid + Trade is an international platform that creates partnerships between aid agencies, UN organizations, business and government with the goal of providing coordinated relief to people in disaster areas all over the world.
