Press Release:
Mexican fans crowded the red carpet on Thursday (June 21) to meet actors Ioan Gruffudd and Jessica Alba during the Mexico City premiere of, “Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer.” Arriving two years after the original “Fantastic Four,” the sequel - helmed by Tim Story - reunited actors Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Julian McMahon.

At Thursday’s premiere Alba, who played the “Invisible Woman”, became worried for a few moments when she lost her ring after tossing a shirt to fans. The ring was quickly recovered and given back to her. At a news conference earlier in the day, Alba spoke about being Latin American.

“I’m so proud to be where I’m from and I think that there’s nothing better than to represent that in American film where we can go all over the world, globally and we can transcend stereotypes,” said Alba. Gruffudd, who played “Mr. Fantastic”, said he appreciated the characters in the movie.

“I admire the fact that they appreciate having a family and a normal life, which is probably more important than having these special powers. So I can appreciate their conflict. As far as their conflict with the government or the army in the movie I think that’s just a way of generating a bit of tension for the movie, for the story,” he said.

Alba, who is of Mexican decent, also touched on the ongoing immigration debate in the United States. “There’s no denying that it’s something that needs to be solved. There needs to be a mutual, beneficial agreement. We’re not going anywhere and I think we need think of ourselves as being part of a global world rather than America living in it’s own little bubble. The world just doesn’t function like that anymore,” she said.

“Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer,” opened last week in the U.S. to 58.1 million U.S. dollars, topping the box-office charts.
